FAQ

General

What is bouldering?

Bouldering is a type of climbing done without ropes or harnesses on shorter walls, up to 4.5 meters high. Thick crash mats provide safety when you fall. Each climb - called a route, problem or bloc - is like a puzzle that combines strength, technique, and problem-solving, making it both physically and mentally rewarding.

Do you need any prerequisites?

You don’t need any previous climbing experience or knowledge to climb at Toko Bloc. Just show up! If you want to progress faster or refine your technique, check out our Coaching page.

Do you need any equipment?

All you need to boulder is a pair of climbing shoes. You can either bring your own, rent a pair from us or buy your own pair in our shop. You might also want to use climbing chalk to improve your grip (also available in our shop). Wear comfortable, flexible clothes that let you move freely. Please note: climbing barefoot or in sneakers is not allowed.

How much does it cost?

A day pass is 240,000 IDR and gets you full access to the climbing walls and training area for the day. We also offer punch cards and monthly memberships if you're sticking around for a while. See our Rates page for the full breakdown. Shoe rental and chalk is not included in the entrance ticket.

What are the opening hours?

We're open every day 9am – 9pm. Peak hours are usually afternoons around 4PM and weekends around lunch time, so if you'd rather climb with more space, mornings tend to be quieter.

Are children welcome at Toko Bloc?

Kids are welcome at Toko Bloc, but keep in mind that it is a sports facility and not a playground. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a supervising adult in the ratio 1:1. Children between 8-14 years old must be accompanied by a supervising adult in the ratio 1:2. Kids under 14 are not allowed in our strength training area for safety reasons. Running or roughhousing is strictly not allowed.

What grading system do you use?

At Toko Bloc, we use the V-scale, one of the most widely recognized bouldering grading systems worldwide. The difficulty of the routes/problems/blocs increases from V0 to V10. The grades help you pick routes at your level, but please keep in mind that grading is subjective and varies from gym to gym. Don’t get too hung up on numbers. Talk to our setters if you think the grading of a route is off - we love feedback!

How often do you set new routes?

We routeset two sectors every week (Mondays and Thursdays), so there’s always something new to climb. A full reset cycle happens roughly every month. Check our routesetting schedule at the gym or on our instagram for updates.

What other facilities do you have?

Besides our climbing walls we offer - a climbing and calisthenics-focused gym - Gaston's, our on-site pizzeria serving Napoletana pizza, beers, juices and coffee - social and work-friendly spaces with high-speed WiFi and plenty of power outlets - events and community nights - lockers and showers - a shop for all your climbing needs (and plenty of merch!)

Can I rent climbing shoes?

Yes, we have climbing shoes for rent in various sizes (EU 30-48) for 40,000 IDR per day. We also have La Sportiva climbing shoes for sale if you want your own pair. For hygiene reasons, rental shoes must be worn with socks. Bring your own or buy a pair from us.

Do you provide chalk?

Chalk, both liquid and powder, is available for sale in our shop. For hygiene reason and to reduce chalk dust and keep the air clean, we don’t provide rental chalk.

Do you have parking?

Yes, we have ample on-site parking available for both scooters and cars. Access is easy from the main road, just off Jl. By Pass Tanah Lot.

Do I need to book in advance?

No booking is needed for regular climbing sessions. We operate on a walk-in basis — just show up and climb. During peak hours the gym can get busy, but there’s usually plenty of space. For classes or coaching, we recommend booking ahead of time to secure your spot.

What should I wear?

Comfortable sportswear that allows free movement. Climbing walls and holds are rough so we recommend wearing long pants.
